Short version: We collect your email to put you on the waitlist. When you use the dashboard, we read health data from your connected apps (Withings, MyFitnessPal, Apple Health, Google Fit, Fitbit) on a read-only basis to show you insights. We never sell your data. Ever.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide Directly

When you join our waitlist or create an account, we collect:

Email address — to send you access invitations, product updates, and relevant communications. You can unsubscribe at any time.
Name — when provided via contact forms, used only to address you properly in responses.
Messages — when you contact us via the contact form, we retain your message to respond to your inquiry.

1.2 Health and Fitness Data (Dashboard Users)

When you connect third-party health services to The Scale Truth, we receive data from those services in order to display it in your dashboard. This may include:

Weight and body composition (from Withings, Fitbit): body weight, body fat percentage, muscle mass, bone mass, water percentage, BMI, visceral fat rating.
Nutrition data (from MyFitnessPal): daily calorie intake, macro and micronutrient breakdown, food log entries.
Activity data (from Apple Health, Google Fit, Fitbit): steps, active calories burned, exercise sessions, heart rate.
Sleep data (from Apple Health, Google Fit, Fitbit, Withings): sleep duration, sleep stages, sleep quality scores.

We request read-only access to all third-party integrations. We cannot and do not modify your data in any connected app. You can revoke access at any time through your account settings or through each app's own authorization settings.

1.3 Automatically Collected Information

When you visit our website, we automatically collect:

IP address — used for security, fraud prevention, and approximate geographic region detection.
Browser and device type — for optimizing the experience on your device.
Pages visited and timestamps — to understand how users navigate the site.
Referring URL — to understand where our visitors come from.

1.4 Cookies and Local Storage

We use minimal cookies and browser local storage:

Theme preference — stored in localStorage to remember your dark/light mode preference between visits. This does not leave your device.
Session cookies — used to keep you logged in to the dashboard during your session. These are essential and expire when you close your browser (unless you use Remember Me).
No third-party advertising cookies. We do not use Google Ads, Facebook Pixel, or similar advertising trackers.

2. How We Use Your Information

To send you your waitlist invitation and product launch announcements.
To display your synchronized health data in your personal dashboard.
To respond to your support requests and contact form submissions.
To improve the product — understanding how features are used helps us prioritize development.

To comply with legal obligations where required.

We do not use your health data to train AI models that are shared with third parties. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information or health data to any third party for any purpose.

3. Third-Party Integrations

The Scale Truth connects with the following third-party services at your direction. When you authorize a connection, you are granting us permission to read data from that service on your behalf. Each service has its own privacy policy that governs how they handle your data independently of us.

You can disconnect any integration at any time from your account settings, at which point we will cease retrieving new data from that service. Previously stored data may be deleted upon request (see Your Rights below).

4. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal data. We may share information only in the following limited circumstances:

Service providers — We may use third-party vendors who help us operate the service (e.g., hosting providers). These vendors are contractually prohibited from using your data for their own purposes and must protect it in accordance with this policy.
Legal compliance — We may disclose information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights or the safety of others.
Business transfers — If The Scale Truth is acquired by or merged with another company, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your personal and health data:

Health data stored on our servers is encrypted at rest.
Access to production data is restricted to authorized personnel only.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. Specifically:

Waitlist email addresses — retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion.
Dashboard health data — retained for the duration of your account and for up to 90 days after account closure, unless you request immediate deletion.
Contact form submissions — retained for up to 2 years for our records, then deleted.
Server logs — typically retained for 30–90 days for security and debugging purposes.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

7.1 For All Users

Access — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Correction — Request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
Deletion — Request that we delete your personal data ("right to be forgotten").

The Scale Truth operates primarily in the United States. If you are accessing our service from outside the United States, please be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where our servers are located. By using our service, you consent to this transfer. Where required by applicable law, we implement appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you by email.
